Ford Historie: Eilfrachter FK 1000 Mit der „Eilfrachter“-Baureihe FK 1000 stellte Ford seine Lösung für die geänderten Transport-Bedürfnisse der Wirtschaftswunder-Zeit vor. Dabei handelte es sich um einen Ford-Transporter, der von Chefingenieur Dr. Alfred Haesner entwickelt und ab 1953 ausschlie-lich in Deutschland produziert wurde. Die Bezeichnung FK 1000 gab bereits einige Details des Fahrzeuges preis: FK kürzte die Endproduktionsstätte Ford Köln ab, während die Zahl 1000 die Nutzlast in Kilogramm bezifferte.

1965 - 1st European Transit 1967 - Ford of Europe formed 1971 - modernized front mask? (not confirmed, more information welcomed) 1976 - Ford produces its one millionth Transit in Germany I have got conflicting information about "sub-generations" of 1st generation, so I can't sort following images. I welcome any reliable information at (I prefer english, czech, slovak or polish language, because I don't understand german).

photos & information Ford Historie: Ford Transit Im März 1978 wurde der erstmals umfassend überarbeitete Ford Transit präsentiert. |u-erlich unterschied sich die neue Modellreihe deutlich von den Vorgängermodellen. So präsentierte sich die 78’er Neuauflage mit einer aerodynamisch günstigeren Frontpartie, die zudem für alle verfügbaren Motorisierungen gleich gestaltet war. Serienmä-ige Halogenscheinwerfer, seitlich integrierte Blinker und geänderte Heckleuchten verbesserten die aktive Sicherheit ebenso wie die Standardisierung eines automatischen, lastabhängigen Bremskraftreglers und einer Warnanzeige für die Zweikreisbremsanlage bei allen Modellen der Baureihe. Third generation of Transit was introduced at 1986. It had revolutionary, very modern design, absolutely different from previous models. Cars (including passenger) of that time were square yet. Third generation had only one wheelbase and two rear overhangs. To one side, short wheelbase with long rear overhang is great for steering in city or warehouse, but across with only one wheelbase Ford couldn’t make enough large cargo space. And long rear overhang isn't good for steering when towing heavy trailer. Cca. from year 1993 this generation was produced with longer wheelbase too, but that vans are not expanded. generation

Three and half generation is very near to third generation. It only got new, more elegant front mask, ventilation bore in D-pillar and new
dashboard (+airbags and more options). This generation was produced with two sizes of wheelbase. Roof was available in 3 heights. Contemporary photos More photos

Concept 1998 (take note of low-lying mirrors) Serial production began at January 2000. Options in Czech rep. Wheelbase & rear overhang 3 sizes of wheelbase + extended rear overhang 3 heights of roof Transit has three highs of roof. But customer can choose only from two highs for each length. It is natural, because lot of body versions would be very complicated for production and first of all – for accreditation. Naturally, for short wheelbase is available low and middle roof, for long wheelbase is available middle and high roof. Front / rear wheels drive Fourth generation of Transit is first, at whose can customer choose from front and rear wheels
drive (elder generations had rear wheels drive). It is incomprehensible, but all wheels drive version is not unfortunately available. Models in Czech rep.
